Carpets and rugs offer some of the most magnificent forms of accessible art with generations of heritage, right under your feet. Produced across the four corners of the globe, with as many different styles as there are knots (there are thousands of producing villages in modern day (Persia alone). We at Doerr Dallas value all carpets including Isfahan, Qum, Ardebil, Hamadan, Tabriz & Kerman.

Around 1,000 years ago in Asia Minor Genghis Khan championed rug making in the Mongolian Empire. The oldest carpet recorded in the world is the famous Pazyryk carpet, found in Siberia and is around two metres square. It would be known as a Persian carpet these days.

By the early 17th century, carpet and rug weaving was prevalent across the majority of the Indian sub-continent. The East India Company had established trade links in the area at this time, sending thousands of fine quality rugs back to newly built shops in the big cities of England and Scotland.

The latter part of the 19th Century saw the British Empire take control of large areas of production in India. This opened doors for enterprising British businesses, which built factories producing fine rugs that were shipped back to the UK.
